# AntColony > AntColony is a desktop app for macOS that runs a team of AI agents ("ants") for you. You give the Queen a task; she reads the colony's memory, staffs the task with specialist ants in departments called nests, runs their jobs in parallel, and merges the work into one answer while you watch live. Ants browse real websites in a built-in Chromium browser, the engineering team runs Claude Code on your code with review before merge, and routines run tasks on a schedule. Risky actions wait for your approval. Key facts: - Platform: macOS desktop app, Apple silicon (arm64) or Intel (x64). Current version 0.1.0. - Try it without a key in demo mode; real runs use your own Anthropic key, stored encrypted with the macOS Keychain. - Structure: the Queen, nests (e.g. Research, Engineering), ants, an authority tree for tools (rights only narrow going down), and four storerooms: Queen's orders, Granary (knowledge), Archive (finished runs), Midden (failures, never shown to the model). - Browser: one shared logged-in session, a tab set per ant, allowed sites enforced before pages load, risky clicks (send, pay, delete, post, submit) wait for you, ants never type into password fields, you can take the wheel. - Engineering: brief, spec with acceptance criteria, build in a safe copy, checks, independent review, then you press Merge. Claude Code first; also finds Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Cursor Agent, Aider, Amp and Goose. - Playbooks: eleven pre-built teams (Engineering, Chief of Staff, Strategy & Research, Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Product, Operations, Finance, People, Legal & Compliance), set up in one step; or the colony researches a new playbook from the web, every claim cited, legal claims held for review. Modes: Draft, Active, Off. - Routines: daily at a time, every N hours, or cron as often as every 5 minutes; runs from the menu bar; notifications when it needs you. ## Pages - [Home](/): overview with interactive figures - [How it works](/how-it-works): a run step by step, the pieces, memory - [Browser](/browser): the AI browser and its safeguards - [Engineering](/engineering): the engineering team and its review line - [Routines](/routines): scheduled tasks - [Safety](/safety): every layer that keeps you in charge - [Download](/download): install steps and requirements - [FAQ](/faq): common questions - [Changelog](/changelog): what's new
