AntColony is a Mac app that runs a team of AI agents, called ants, for you. You give the Queen a task. She reads the colony's memory, staffs the job with ants that fit, runs them in parallel, and merges their work into one answer while you watch it live.
What is AntColony?
AntColony is a Mac app that runs a team of AI agents, called ants, for you. You give the Queen a task. She reads the colony's memory, staffs the job with ants that fit, runs them in parallel, and merges their work into one answer while you watch it live.
Which computers does AntColony run on?
AntColony is a desktop app for macOS. Builds are made for Apple silicon (arm64) and Intel (x64) Macs; the Apple silicon build is the one that has been tested.
Do I need an API key?
No key is needed to try it: demo mode runs a simulated colony, and the first ant does a short real browse so you can watch. Real runs use your own Anthropic key, which the app keeps encrypted with the macOS Keychain.
Can the ants really use a web browser?
Yes. The app contains a real Chromium browser. Ants open pages, read them, click, type and scroll in their own tabs, all sharing one logged-in session, and you see each ant's browser live in the side panel.
How do I stop an ant from doing something I don't want?
Ants only visit sites the colony is allowed to open, and they ask you first before reaching a new one. Risky clicks such as send, pay, delete, post and submit wait for your yes. Ants can never type into password fields, and you can take the wheel of any browser at any time.
Can AntColony write code?
Yes. Point the colony at a code folder and its engineering team runs Claude Code in a safe copy on its own branch. Every build goes brief, spec, build, checks and review, and nothing lands until you press Merge.
Can the colony work while I'm away?
Yes. Routines are standing tasks the Queen runs on a schedule: daily at a time, every few hours, or on a cron schedule as often as every 5 minutes. Closing the window keeps the colony running from the menu bar, and anything that needs your yes waits and sends a Mac notification.
Where is my data kept?
On your Mac. The colony, its memory (the storerooms), browser logins and downloads live in the app's data folder and ~/Downloads/AntColony. Your model key is sent only to the model provider for the requests that need it.
What are playbooks?
A playbook is a ready-made team for a kind of work. AntColony ships eleven, from Engineering and Sales to Finance and Legal, each with a lead, specialist ants, tools and standing rules for what to handle, draft or escalate, set up in one step. You can also have the colony research a new playbook from the web: every claim is tied to its sources, unsourced claims are dropped, and legal ones wait for your review.
How is AntColony different from a single chatbot agent?
A chatbot agent is one worker in one conversation. AntColony is an organisation: a Queen who plans, nests that group ants by department, an authority tree that decides which ant may use which tool, memory shared across runs, and parallel work that you can steer while it happens.
Try it with the demo colony.
Download the app and watch a simulated colony work, no key needed. Add your own key when you want it working for you.
